Dream and Design with the 5th Grade
The fifth grade KIDLAB program revolves around the engineering design process and its use to solve real world problems. Over the course of one quarter, students will be faced with a variety of scenarios and required to design and create prototypes to meet different criteria. Focusing on simple machines and tools, the fifth grade will learn how to assess a situation to determine a need, brainstorm possible ideas, design and diagram a possible solution, build a prototype and reassess for future improvements. Students are required to complete homework assignments, participate in class, work in groups, and sign a safety contract insuring safe and proper use of tools.
