K1 learns about wood
The first big K1 unit is all about wood. We learned that wood comes from trees and that different trees produce different types of wood. We also learned that wood is on the inside of the trunk of the tree and is covered in bark for protection.
We talked about things we can make out of wood like houses and tables but we discovered that freshly cut wood is too rough and splintery to use. We decided that we could use sandpaper to smooth the wood and take off all of the imperfections. We made sure to wear our goggles to protect our eyes from the sawdust we created. Check out our wood centers from week one of wood!
