Welcome to the NHCS Zoo!
During the month of October, the third and fourth grade students of NHCS were faced with an engineering challenge. In small groups, students were asked to create a zoo exhibit for a wild animal. They needed to determine the animals basic needs and design accordingly. Students needed to make sure that the exhibits were pleasing to the animal AND to the zoo visitors.
After the original design was complete, the engineers needed feedback from their clients. Since our animals couldn't tell us if they were okay, we randomly picked sticks to gauge our animals happiness. The sticks could say anything from "more sunlight" to "less visibility to humans".
After all of the exhibits were complete and animals were happy, we built our zoo. With a little research we figured out where each animal would live on earth and mapped out our zoo based on location. We had six different areas to our zoo- North American Forest, Rainforest, African Grassland, Arctic, Antarctic, and Asia. Our zoo was open to the public for two weeks and got rave reviews.
