Crustaceans!
After the trip to the New England Aquarium, the K2 was super excited to learn more about ocean animals. In honor of the new K2 classroom pet (a hermit crab named Colors) we looked at the group of animals called crustaceans. Crustaceans are animals that have an exoskeleton (shell) covering their entire body. This is different than a turtle shell- with a turtle, there is still some skin. Crustaceans have no skin. Crustaceans also have jointed legs, claws, and antenna. Some common crustaceans are lobsters, crabs, shrimp and krill. We read the Eric Carl book A House for a Hermit Crab and then made our own friends. We even got to take a look at a real (though no longer living) horseshoe crab. Take a look!
