We Live on Planet Earth!
K2 was exited for our first big, messy project! After studying about Christopher Columbus sailing from Europe to the New World, K2 looked a little closer at the make up of the Earth. We saw that the Earth is made of areas of land and water. There are 5 big areas of water called oceans and 7 large areas of land called continents. We looked at maps and globes in order to better understand what the Earth looks like. Then it was time to get messy and make out own globes! We blew up balloons and mixed flour and water together to make a special kind of paste called paper mache. We dipped strips of newspaper into the paper mache, wiped off the extra and smoothed the pieces out on the balloons. After the paper mache dried, we were left with a hard, spherical shell that we painted with blue and green to represent the water and land.
